Google-Apple Rivalry
Posted on 30 January 2010
In recent times we’ve been listening a lot about Apple-Google bitter terms. The biggest among the news is the replacement of Google search engine by Bing (Microsoft). If Bing come on iPhone, loads in the web industry may change. That apart, there’s some issue between Google and Apple about patent rights.
I didn’t know this until I came across this little post on iphonehelp talking about the touch screen problem between Apple and Google. I had believed it was search engine that was creating the entire problem, but, no, there is more to only one issue.
Apple a while ago had asked Google of keeping touch screen out of Nexus One. One would wonder why Apple doesn’t file a lawsuit rather than sending out requests to Google to not integrate touch screen feature in its first mobile phone attempt. The fact is Apple has no choice other than requesting- the patent rights of touch screen are not quite strong. So even if Apple files a case against a manufacturer, there are good chances that Apple will lose it.
There has already been good amount of conflict between Apple and Google – remember the most recent one on Google Voice on iPhone? Apple had not allowedthis app to be used on iPhone. (Read the complete report here: GV Mobile Out on Cydia Gets Google Voice on iPhone) The problems between the two big wigs are very clear even if they deny accepting it.
This time it is slightly difficult to anticipate anything because the two biggest tech organizations are involved in it. Prior to now the two have also had troubles over Chrome OS. Now some legal matters over touch screen application. Let’s see what the end result will be like. Certainly not a positive one (with Google in the mobile phone market, issues will only worsen.)
