August 12 Release For The Blackberry Torch 9800
Posted on 08 August 2010
The Canadian business that manufactures Blackberry devices is preparing to release the Blackberry Torch 9800 in August. Slated for release on the AT and T network on Aug. 12, the Blackberry Torch tries to re-brand the Blackberry as a tool for both businesspeople and consumers. New features that have been built into the Blackberry Touch have some customers excited, but reviewers do not seem happy.
The Blackberry Torch 9800 basics
The features that Blackberries are loved for are maintained within the Torch 9800. The QWERTY keyboard is housed in a slider-style case. Messaging and web browsing features have been updated. The Blackberry Torch also feels and acts much like previous Blackberry phones, with a comparable size, weight, and interface. The security that Blackberry phones have become known for are also in place.
Updating firmware on the Blackberry Torch
The Blackberry 6 operating system has been written for the Blackberry Torch. Blackberry users are excited to see the updates they are asking for on the new Blackberry Torch. There will be built in messaging and social networking. Data usage is kept to a minimum with the new WebKit browser, supposedly. Finally, the Blackberry Torch 9800 will come pre-loaded with the Blackberry App Store (and, on AT and T, a separate AT and T app store) to customize the phone with specially developed apps.
Concerns about the Blackberry Torch 9800
RIM may well discover itself fighting for market share, even with the Blackberry Torch 9800. The Blackberry is and has always been intended and developed for business and government use — strong security and no-frills interfaces. By adding more consumer-friendly features, RIM hopes the Blackberry Torch will kick-start sales. The new Blackberry Torch 9800 has a tiny screen with low resolution, though, and an email interface that is reportedly very clunky. These together may prove to be the downfall of this Smartphone maker, although they really began the Smartphone movement.
