Type Of Language Used In Mobile Phone World
Posted on 09 September 2010
You may find some of the mobile phone terminology quite confusing if you are thinking of going out and buying one. The fact that mobile phones seem to be increasing in sophistication means that the language associated with them also seems to be increasing in complexity. Below you will find some of the more common mobile phone terms that you might hear.
- GSM stands for Global Systems for Mobile Communications. This is the most popular system for handling mobile phone communications with over 43 billion people users.
- 1G, 2G, 3G, & 4G mobile phones. What is meant by the G with all these mobile phones is generation. The first phones that came out were considered 1G phones as in 1st generation and the ones that are out now are fourth generation phones. Fifth generation phones seem to be on the cards these days. The newer phones are able to handle a lot more data than any phones in the past.
- SIM Card. The word SIM stands for Subscriber Identity Module and this is where all the information about the subscriber’s identity is stored. SIM Cards are where passwords and unique identity numbers of the subscriber are stored. Unless you have a SIM card for the phone, you will not be able to use it properly.
- Bluetooth. Most phones come with an open wireless network known as Bluetooth and this lets them pass information to and from each other’s phone over a specific distance. Bluetooth is very handy as you can pass things such as music and photos between phones.
- SMS is Short Messaging Services. Communication between two phones is what is meant by SMS (short messaging services).
- When it comes to sending things such as photos, videos, music files or ringtones to each other it is done through MMS (multimedia messaging service).
- Many mobile phones now have GPS which refers to Global Positional Services. GPS enables our location to be found by using the mobile phone.
SD Cards are items found in a lot of things in today’s day and age. 32gb Ultra SD cards happen to be a great example of this. Another one that is used nowadays is the R4i.
